Visual Studio Code is a source code editor with features that include syntax highlighting and “IntelliSense” code completion with support for dozens of languages (including C++, C#, CSS, Dockerfile, Go, HTML, Java, JavaScript, JSON, Less, Markdown, PHP, Python, Sass, etc.), Git support, an HTML-based editor, debugging extensions and other extensions.

Visual Studio Code 1.45 is a free, JavaScript Electron-based, open source download for OS X 10.10 and up, Linux, and Windows. The latest release includes a number of improvements.


Visual Studio for Mac is a Mac-native version of Microsoft Corp.’s Xamarin cross-platform development system, using MonoDevelop, MSBuild and .NET, supporting C# and F# languages. (See release notes for more details, including security issues.)

Visual Studio 2017 for Mac 15.9 is a free, open-source download for macOS 10.12 and up (with Apple’s Xcode).
